Andhra Pradesh is an important Indian State located on the South-Eastern coast of the country. With some scenic beaches and rich history and culture, the place is the perfect invitation for the tourists who visit by the thousands each month.

Historical Background:

Andhra Pradesh is an ancient region and it finds mention in the Sanskrit texts and epics like Mahabharata. This region has been ruled by several dynasties such as Maurya, Pallava, Rashtrakuta, Chalukya, Cholas, and finally the British rule.

Language and Culture:

People predominantly speak the Telugu language and this language is said to have originated from the time of the Chola dynasty in the State. The famous Carnatic music is said to have begun from this region and the rich Kuchipudi dance form is also well-known.

One of the major tourist destinations in the State is Visakhapatnam and it is a place that no traveler bypasses during his travel to Andhra Pradesh. This region has some stunning specimens of natural beauty such as hilltops and beaches.

Regions like Araku Valley and Borra Caves hold a lot of historic importance and beaches such as Rishikonda and Yarada make for some amazing locations. People also visit the Katiki Waterfalls, Kailasagiri Hill Park, Indira Gandhi Zoological Park, and others while they are here.

The religious attractions of this region include places like Tirupati which has temples such as the Venkateswara and Govindaraja Temple. Another popular tourist destination is Vijaywada where there are places like Mogalarajapuram caves and Undavalli caves which bear a strong historic reference.

So do sites like Kondapalli Fort, Prakasam Barrage, and the Victoria Museum. While in Andhra Pradesh, remember to visit Nellore for attractions such as Venkatgiri and Udaygiri fort and places like Nellapattu Bird Sanctuary, Mypad Beach, Pulicat Lake, and Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple.

Other notable tourist destinations in the State include Kaundinya Wildlife Sanctuary, Nagari Hills, Horsley Hills, Gurramkonda Fort, in Chittoor; Kurnool Fort, Belum Caves, Adoni Fort, and Mantralayam in Kurnool, and Kothapatnam beach and Vodarevu beach in Ongole.

The local cuisine is spicy and famous for dishes like the Hyderabadi biriyani, Pulihora, Chepa Pulusu, and many others. Pootharekulu is a famous sweet dish of this region. You can take back home souvenirs such as the Hyderabadi pearls, lac bangles from Laad Bazaar, and Bidri work which is a famous local craft.

Transportation:

Being an important IT hub, the State is well-connected by all forms of transport on land, rail, and air. There is an international airport in Hyderabad and other airports stand in Vishakhapatnam, Tirupati, Vijaywada, etc.

There are lots of trains from all regions of India and rail connectivity means that you can easily reach here by train. With more than 4000km of National Highway passing through the State, the road conditions are excellent and you can also take a bus or rent a car from a neighboring place.

Best Time to Visit:

During the summer months in Andhra Pradesh, the temperatures soar as high as 45°C and thus, it is advised to visit during the winter months of November to February.
