Day wise Itinerary
Day 01: Arrival and Journey to Kandy
Upon arrival at the airport, you will be warmly greeted and assisted before your departure to this serene city of Kandy. En route, you will visit the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage in Rambukkana; this is the world’s largest center for captive elephants. Take a leisurely walk around the beautiful 24-acre estate, and visit exhibits about its conservation efforts and stories of its fascinating elephant residents. Founded in 1975, this orphanage is not only a haven for rescued elephants but also a breeding center, with the first calf born here in 1984.
You will move on to Kandy pretty hill capital of Sri Lanka-where the breathtaking surroundings of hills, lakes, rivers, and waterfalls have captivated the city. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988, Kandy affords splendor that is predominantly of Indian and Sinhalese architectural designs. There will be a city tour featuring highlights such as Lake Drive, Gem Museum, Silk Shop, and Batik displays in the evening. Later, indulge in the colourful heritage of Sri Lanka with the Kandy Cultural Show: a spectacular display of the island’s traditional dances. Dinner and overnight stay at your hotel in Kandy.
Day 02: Exploring Kandy and Journey to Nuwara Eliya
After a nice hearty breakfast, see the Temple of the Tooth (Dalada Maligawa). This is an extremely sacred Buddhist shrine that houses the sacred relic of Lord Buddha’s tooth. The temple in all its grandeur and history was simply a must-see for pilgrims as well as history enthusiasts. Next, visit the Royal Botanical Garden at Peradeniya, which boasts more than 300 varieties of orchids, spices, and medicinal plants. The gardens are spread over 147 acres and make a peaceful haven and a testimony to Sri Lankan botanical diversity.
Later, travel to Nuwara Eliya, affectionately known as “Little England,” for its colonial atmosphere. Along the way, visit the Sri Baktha Hanuman Temple, a sacred place related to the epic Ramayana. The 16-foot-high Hanuman statue is here, and it acts as a beacon of spirit. Further, travel to the beautiful Ramboda Falls-a scenic wonder that’ll leave you puzzled.
Once here, take time to visit a Tea Factory to familiarize yourself with Sri Lanka’s notable tea industry. Take the rest of the day and discover Nuwara Eliya’s lovely attractions such as Gregory Lake where you can go for a boat ride or lakeside walk. You may as well visit the Strawberry Plantations, Victoria Park, Racecourse, or Golf Club to experience the colonial elegance of the city. Dinner and overnight stay at your hotel in Nuwara Eliya.
Day 03: Discovering Nuwara Eliya and Transfer to Bentota
Start your day by visiting Sitha Amman Temple, a significant location along the Ramayana Trail. This temple provides impressive statues and paintings of the story of Rama and Sitha. Nearby is Hakgala Botanical Gardens, noted for its amazing rose gardens and collection of exotic flora. The place abounds in a lot of mythological importance as this place is believed to be where Sitha was confined by Ravana, and it is also where Hanuman delivered the news of Rama’s quest to find her.
Spend the afternoon traveling to Bentota, the coastal paradise. Keep the evening free to relax at your hotel. Bathed in this splendid sea-air beach paradise atmosphere. Dinner and overnight stay at your hotel in Bentota.
Day 04: Sightseeing and Activities in Bentota
Visit the Kosgoda Sea Turtle Conservation Project after a hearty breakfast, witnessing first-hand the amazing endeavours to save these endangered creatures. Learn all you want about this process of protection of nesting sites and how baby turtles are released into the ocean. Rest of the morning at leisure.
Then, take a scenic Madu River Boat Ride, which is a peaceful journey through a mangrove-lined river scattered with 64 small islands. This natural wonder is a haven for biodiversity and a peaceful retreat for nature lovers. If you feel adventurous, indulge in optional water sports activities available in the area.
Spend some relaxed time at leisure in your hotel. Savour the tranquillity of the coastal outskirts. Dinner and overnight stay in Bentota.
Day 05: Bentota to Colombo
After breakfast, take a transfer to Colombo, Sri Lanka’s bustling commercial capital. Start your tour of the city with its history and present modish imagery. Among other attractions, visit Gangaramaya Temple with its unique cultural blend of architectural influences. Then observe the historic sites, shopping districts, and vibrant streets of the town.
