Historical Background:

Like several other hill stations, Yelagiri too was developed by the British for a comfortable retreat from the heat of South India. Previously it was a property of the Yelagiri Zamindar Family and became a part of India after the abolition of Zamindari by a Constitution Amendment in the 1950s.
