The sanctuary is committed to Shikari Devi, the Goddess of the hunt. In the old days, the trackers or shikaris of the locale would pray to the Goddess in the sanctuary to look for favors for a fruitful chase.

Guests can arrive at Shikari Devi either from Karsog (21 km) or Janjehli (16 km). One can climb the entire way or recruit a vehicle.

The road stops about a kilometer away from the sanctuary, from where one needs to climb almost 550 stages to arrive at the sanctuary.
