Pathiramanal a beautiful island, until 1979 was the property of the Thaimattatil family. The island is full of natural vegetation and offers a perfect climatic condition for regional flora and fauna to thrive. ‘Pathiramanal,’ meaning ‘sands of the night,’ boasts verdant wilderness, serene lakeside, and a picturesque landscape. The exquisite island is home to around 91 species of local birds and 50 species of migratory birds. Further, the exotic birds include Whiskered Tern, Pintail Ducks, Little Cormorant, Common Teal, Cotton Pygmy-Goose, Night Heron, Whistling Duck, Cormorant, Darter, Indian Shag, Stork-billed Kingfisher, Purple Heron, Bronze-winged Jacanas, Cattle Egret, Little Egret, Indian Pond Heron, etc.
