History of Khandala
“Maratha and Peshwa” took control and ruled over the fort of Lonavala. The great Maratha warriors, “Mavlas,” played essential roles in that era of history. The Senapati (General) of Peshwas “ Sardar Dabhade” hailed by nearby Talegaon.
Khandala played another significant role during that time. The Britishers & Raghunath Rao Peshwa captured Khandala Ghat together in 1778. Peshwa then ruled it until 1818. Then, in 1818, the British started to rule over the territory.

Lonavala and Khandala are famous for their street food. And the most famous local item is Chikki. Hence, Chikki holds particular importance in these hill stations. Unfortunately, Khandala does not have its own airport. The nearest airport is Pune International Airport, 64 km away, or Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, 104 km away. Once at any of the airports, you can hire a taxi or local bus or train.
By Train:
Khandala has its railway station, and all the trains traveling between Pune and Mumbai take a halt at Lonavala. There are local trains from Mumbai and Pune every day.
By Road:
Kandala is well-connected to all the major cities in Maharashtra. You can take a government bus or opt for a private bus. The journey through the bus is comfortable and enjoyable as you get beautiful views of the ghats.
