Also known as Kovai, Coimbatore is the second largest metropolitan city of Tamil Nadu. Being a major textile centre, it has also earned the nickname ‘Manchester of South India’.
Historical Significance
Under the SangamCheras Coimbatore was an important hub on the trade route between Tamil Nadu and the West . After the Cheras and Cholas, it came under the Vijaynagar Empire and later under Mysore.
After defeating Tipu, the British annexed it to Madras Presidency. Industrialization began in 1888 and the textile boom in 1920s.

Climate is generally pleasant year-round.
September to March is great for outdoor activities while April and May are ideal for shopping and beach visits.
