Formerly famous as Hauz-e-Qutub, Kankaria Lake is the second largest lake in Ahmedabad. Architecture of Kankaria Lake

The lake has a unique shape of a 34 sided polygon extending over 76 acres. Further, This shape is implicative of Mughal architecture. With staircases cutting into the stone at regular intervals and water trenches including the stairs, this well-planned Kankaria lake is a brilliant example of Indian style.

In the middle of the lake sits a garden, appropriately named Nagina Wadi – or Jewel do the lake. Subjecting to the numerous renovations by Britishers, kings, and the post-independence government, the lake has retained its core elements.

People believe 'Kankaria' derives from 'Kankar.'
