Madhya Pradesh


Madhya Pradesh, as literally means “Central Province”, this is a state of Central India. Since it is in center state of the country, it is famously called as “Heart Of India”. It is abbreviated and widely called as MP. This state shares borders with Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Gujarat and Rajasthan.

History

Signs of Homo erectus have been found in Madhya Pradesh. This state has seen many kingdoms and empires who ruled in ancient India. This region is also mentioned in Hindu epic like Ramayana and Mahabharata. However around 320 BCE, when Chandragupta Maurya united the entire northern Aryavrata, MP got the major impact of that, and that laid the foundation of modern Madhya Pradesh.

Geography

Madhya Pradesh is very rich by nature due to its different geographical regions. This state has got five different types of soils only which certainly assures a rich flora and fauna in this region. Including National Parks like Bandhavgarh National Park, Satpura National Park and Kanha National Park, this state has total 11 national parks and many natural preserves, which gives shelters to various animal and bird species.

Narmada is the longest river here. Here you can see many valleys and Plateau regions. The most famous Chambal Valley, the valley of robbers/dacoits is also in this state.

Languages

Hindi is the official and mostly spoken language in this state and Punjabi is the second most widely spoken language here. Urdu, Marathi and various tribal languages are also spoken here.

Culture

This state offers more than 32 folk dances, which are also very famous in Indian classical dance forms. Some of the noted Musical Gharanas of India belongs to this state only.

Transportation

Madhya Pradesh is very well connected internally and to rest of India by roadways and railways. Jabalpur in MP serves as headquarters of the West Central Railway Zone of Indian railways. This state does not have any coastline but has very well connectivity by airways.
