Gulmarg, originally known as ‘Gaurimarg’ is also famously called as the “meadow of flowers”. Located in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramula district; this beautiful place lies nestled in the gigantic Himalayas only miles from the India-Pakistan LOC.

Historical Background

Sultan Yusuf Shah was completely enthralled by the beauty of this place and named it ‘Gulmarg’ in the 16th century from its pre-existing name ‘Gaurimarg’. Even Mughal Emperor Jehangir was also inspired by the scenic beauty and he once collected 21 different varieties of flowers from here. Gulmarg was also a famous resort among the Britishers residing in India.
