Bihar; a state lies on North region is 3rd largest state by population among all 29 states of India. By geography it is 12th largest state of India. It is bounded by Indian states of Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and West Bengal. This state shares international border with Nepal to the North. In year 2000, southern part of Bihar subdivided and formed a new state named Jharkhand.
In ancient India, Bihar was a centre of power, culture and education. One of the biggest Empires like Maurya and Gupta empires who almost ruled over entire South Asia were originated from Magadha, Bihar.
Bihar has official language as Hindi and Urdu. However majority of population speaks Bhojpuri, Maithili, Magadhi, Angika and Bajjika.

7.2% geographical area of Bihar is surrounded by Forests. Most of the forest region is Deciduous. This state is so rich by its flora and fauna. National aquatic animal, Ganges River Dolphins also known as “Sois” are mostly found in Ganga river plains in Bihar. Vikramshila Gangetic Dolphin Sanctuary near Bhagalpur district is set up to protect this rare species. Forests of Bihar are sheltering rich wildlife habitats.

Culture of Bihar is very rich in nature. By religious prospective, this state has very interesting touch to every religion. Where Buddhist monks established many monasteries since 5th Century, The Mahabodhi Temple of Gaya is one of the most holy sites for Buddhism related to Lord Buddha. For Sikhs, the tenth and last Guru of Sikhism, Guru Gobind Singh Ji was born in Patna, Bihar. Current Indian currency name “Rupiya” is also originated from Bihar by that time emperor Sher Shah Suri, famously known as The Pathan Of Bihar.
Bihar is very well connected to all over India by roadways, railways, seaways and airways. This state has three airports. Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Airport, Patna, Purnea Airport, Purnea and Gaya Airport, Gaya.
Bihar is one of the selective states in India, which is connected to all states of India by Railways. It has vast network of NH and SH (National Highways and State Highways).
Ancient Bihar was one of the most developed regions across Asia. During 5th and 8th century, universities like Nalanda and Vikramshila respectively were centre of learning in entire Asia Pacific and only renowned international universities of that time. It was the center of power, learning and culture.
But unfortunately after independence suddenly we saw a huge downfall in Bihar literacy rate. In past few years, Government of Bihar with Bihar e-Governance Services & Technologies (BeST) started a unique program to establish Bihar Knowledge Center; an effort to make this state an educational hub.
